DOAMF advocates inclusion for Makoko students

As part of efforts aimed at spreading joy and hope to upcoming generations, the Daniel Ogechi Akujobi Memorial Foundation (DOAMF) commemorated this year’s Children’s Day with students of Mount Zion Nursery and Primary School, Makoko, Lagos.

The celebration, which welcomed over 100 children, was a day of laughter, joy and excitement for students of the school and others within the surrounding.

It was also a memorable day dedicated to celebrating dreams, talents, and happiness of young people in the community.

Makoko, considered the world’s largest floating slum, has had many interventions over the years, but there seems not to be a commensurate improvement in either the quality or way of life of the people in the community.

The Children’s Day celebration was organised in the community as a way of bringing encouragement and mentorship to the children in order for them to aspire for a better tomorrow.

The Foundation’s Senior Programme Officer, Bukunmi Osunsina noted, “as the theme of this year’s celebration says, “Future Now: Promoting Inclusion for every Nigerian Child”, the Foundation decided to celebrate with these children for them to know that they matter and that they are not forgotten.’

She further stated that the Foundation understands that the future of any nation is the children and to have a good future, no child should be left behind as any child left behind today might be a menace to the Nation tomorrow. Children’s Day reminds us of our shared responsibility to nurture, protect, and empower every child. Seeing the joy on their faces made all the effort worthwhile.”

On her part, the Foundation’s Programme Manager, Catherine Olukotun, explained that, “Children’s Day continues to serve as an important reminder of the value of investing in our youngest generation. DOAM Foundation remains dedicated to creating safe, inclusive spaces where children can thrive and reach their full potential.”

She further disclosed that the celebration was made possible through the generous support and partnership of organisations such as, Sacvin, Chikki Foods, FMN, Eezee Rainbow, 7Up Bottling Company, New Bisco and Beloxxi Biscuits.

To her, “alongside the nutritional materials provided for the children, clothing materials were provided by individuals which added more fun and colour to the celebration.’
