Dogara Heads Committee Of Legislative Lawyers’ Forum
The Forum, according to BarIister Chidiogo Anyigor, was set up to promote the enactment of quality and enforceable legislation, exchange of ideas and information among Lawyers in the legislative arm of government.
Anyigor said the Forum is aimed at developing the legislative law practice as a specialised area of legal practice, promote the welfare of lawyers in the Nigerian Legislature, as well as partner with Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in its legislative advocacy drive.
She disclosed that the forum was the outcome of series of meetings and consultations held with 18 senators, 52 members of the House of Representatives and other senior lawyers in the country.
Meanwhile, Dogara has assured that the Forum and Association would serve as the secretariat and engine room of legislative law for NBA.
“It is my view that this Association should also champion the introduction of Legislative Studies in schools and universities.
“Time has come for practitioners and students to have a thorough knowledge about the ‘legislative process, including constitutional interpretation by the legislature, theories of representation, legislative organisation and rules, lobbying, legislative oversight powers, and legislature-executive relationships’.
“The Association should maintain a pool of experts in this field that could be relied on whenever the need arises,” he urged.
