Don’t discriminate against private varsities, VC tells education minister


Vice-Chancellor of Precious Cornerstone University (PCU), Ibadan, Prof. Timothy Adejumo, has called on the new Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, not to discriminate against private universities in his policies.

Adejumo urged Alausa to provide a level-playing ground for both private and public universities to thrive. The vice-chancellor made the call during a press conference heralding the third convocation of the university.

The professor urged the minister to extend all benefits enjoyed by public universities to private ones. He specifically said student loan and TETFund benefits should be extended to private universities.

Speaking on the convocation, the VC said it would climax today, which is the Foundation Day Award of degrees and prizes, conferment of honourary degrees and presentation of convocation lecture.

The lecture, with the theme: ‘’Faith, Leadership and Governance: Preparing the Next Generation for Ethical Leadership in Nigeria’’, will be delivered by Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.

Speaking on the performance of the graduands, the VC said: “This year’s graduating class has 118 students with 14 First Class honours, 65 Second-Class Upper, 37 Second Class Lower and two Third Class.

“Mr Abraham Akinwole from the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences, Department of Physical Sciences (Physics with Electronics), emerged as the best graduating student with CGPA of 4.98,” he said.
