Don’t distract Buhari with hasty criticism, says Afenifere chieftain

A chieftain of the pan-Yoruba socio- cultural group, Afenifere, Mr Yinka Odumakin has said that President Muhammadu Buhari should be given adequate time to sort out some pertinent issues in the nation’s affairs that would put the country on strong footing for serious governance instead of engaging his administration on unnecessary criticism.

He said all Nigerians need do for now is to play their part by being law abiding and provide support to the current administration to deliver its promises to the society.

The National Publicity Secretary of Afenifere, who spoke in Osogbo, capital of Osun state stated that even 100 days that some elected representatives use to showcase their achievements in the country is not enough to assess the present administration’s performance.

Odumakin who disclosed that President Buhari was trying to settle down to tackle numerous challenges afflicting the country, said it would be too hasty for anyone to criticise president Buhari’s leadership barely two months he ssumed office.

He noted that criticism being leveled against his administration is hasty and distractive in view of enormous task before the president to first clear the rot he met on ground.

According to him, “I think its too early to do meaningful assessment of President Buhari’s administration; maybe by 100 days, we shall have a clearer picture. What we have seen so far is that he (Buhari) is still trying to settle down because as we talk now, there is no Secretary to the Government of the Federation {SGF}, there is no Chief of Staff, no cabinet.

“What we can see now is that he is travelling to countries in order to discover how better to combat the Boko Haram insurgency which has held back the growth of this country.”

“Nigerians should support him (Buhari) to succeed because if he gets it right, we will all enjoy it, we should give him time and avoid unnecessary criticism in order for him to settle down and govern well.”

Commenting on a serving judge in Osun State, Justice Olamide Folahanmi Oloyede’s call for the removal of Governor Rauf Aregbesola and his Deputy, Titi Laoye Tomori for alleged mismanagement of Osun resources, Odumakin urged the state House of Assembly to expedite action on the case.

His words: “You know, for those of us who are not directly at the receiving end of this unpaid salaries and other crisis hitting Osun state, we can begin to say the call for the removal of Aregbesola is not right. Look, for somebody to work for 7/8 months and did not get paid is devastating

“The reason why we are not picking dead bodies on the street of Osun is because of the way we live in Nigeria, where people can support one another and family can borrow money from another family.

“When people see your situation is critical, they rally round you to save you. Let this happen in Europe, for government not to pay workers for two months, there will be disaster”
