
The Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, has tasked politicians in the state and across the country not to emulate politicians disrespecting monarchs, but always according traditional institutions due respect with a view to attracting and enjoying the blessings and protection of the ancestors.
He made the assertion when a governorship aspirant under the Labour Party (LP) in Edo State, Kenneth Imansuagbon, paid him a visit for royal blessings for his political career and gubernatorial aspiration ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
Imansuagbon, who was received by the Benin monarch, Oba Ewuare II, was accompanied by a retinue of party supporter, and friends.
Praying for the Labour Party guber hopeful, the monarch asked the God and the ancestors of the land to help Imansuagbon overcome all obstacles, seen and unseen in his journey during the electioneering campaigns.
He told Imansuagbon to be steadfast by ensuring that he keeps to his electoral promises after victory as well as respect the traditional institution in the state for progress of Benin Kingdom.
Earlier, Imansuagbon told the Benin monarch that his aim of coming was to first of all intimate the king of his ambition to contest the governorship election next year under the platform of LP with the logo: “Papa, Mama, and Pikin.”
According to Imansuagbon, who is called ‘Rice Man’, because of his yearly distribution of rice to the needy in the society, “I came to tell my father, His Majesty, the Oba of Benin my intention to contest the governorship election of our dear state, Edo, and to seek his royal blessing.”
Meanwhile, former Governor of Edo State between May 2007 and November 2008, Prof. Oserheimen Osunbor, has disclosed his resolve to have another shot at the position in the forthcoming 2024 governorship poll.
Osunbor made the disclosure while on a visit to the Oba of Benin, in his palace in Benin City, to seek for the monarch’s prayers and support towards his political ambition.
Osunbor recalled that he was the governor of the state for a short period adding “so it is my desire to come back and complete my mission and also to contribute in my own way to assist the monarch in developing our state to a very enviable level.”
