Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has pleaded with the military to avoid truncating the nation’s democracy.

Speaking at the 45 Basic Medical Qualifying Course of Nigerian Navy College of Health Sciences, Offa, he stressed that the country could not afford to be an isolated island.

Consequently, AbdulRazaq urged the armed forces to sustain their loyalty to constituted authorities.

Represented by his deputy, Kayode Alabi, the governor advised the graduates to respect the rule of law and fundamental human rights.

He further pleaded with the military to abstain from partisan politics and acts injurious to the interest of the nation.

His words: “As you celebrate today (yesterday), all graduands (graduates) must bear in mind that a lot has (have) been invested in your training by the college, the Nigerian Navy, and by extension, our dear country, Nigeria. I am also mindful of the fact that the college has continued to update its course contents and programmes in line with global practices. All these efforts should be evident, henceforth, in the discharge of your duties as naval personnel and medical professionals.”

He commended the commandant, instructors and entire staff of the institution for putting in their best to improve the welfare and infrastructure needs of the college.

The governor promised state’s support for the institution in the areas of logistics, training and operations.

Flag Officer Commanding, Naval Training Command, Rear Admiral Patrick Nwatu, charged the graduates to foster the vision of the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, in implementing a motivated force, capable of shaping the security outcomes within the nation’s maritime domain and littorals.

Commandant of the Nigerian Navy College of Health Sciences, Captain Anastasia Ossai, stressed that training is at the core of CNS’ strategic directives, adding that the aspiration of the college was to train highly-skilled, disciplined and dedicated medical staff, fit to respond to the health care needs of the force for optimal performance.

He encouraged the fresh trainees to be up and doing, as well as encourage national cohesion via their deeds.
