Don’t undermine our budget estimate, says Naval Chief
Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok Ete-Ibas, has told the House Committee on Navy not to undermine the budget estimate of the Nigerian Navy pending before it for approval.
He said non-approval of the estimated budget of the service had grave consequence for the country, as it would spend heavier sums of money to contain security, especially within its maritime environment.
Ibas disclosed this when he received members of the House of Representatives Committee on Navy, led by its Chairman, Abdussamad Dasuki, who came on oversight at the Naval Headquarters.
He however tasked the National Assembly to look into the budget of the Nigerian Navy from a patriotic point of view and appropriately approve same for the service to adequately contain security threats in the country’s maritime domain, saying they were ready to rise up to any call but said its capacity was hinged on inadequate funding.
He recalled that the last time they met was about a year ago, noting that regular meetings between the duo could not only enhance relationship but also understanding needed to effectively tackle maritime challenges.
Responding, Dasuki hailed the CNS for the various achievements he had achieved under his leadership just as he congratulated him over the extension of his tenure by the President.
