The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has confirmed the death of a person following a lone accident involving a Toyota Sienna (KTU 666 JP) at Conoil, inward Secretariat, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The tragic incident, which occurred yesterday morning, led to the untimely death of the driver, while three other occupants, two males and one female, sustained severe injuries.
Personnel from the Lagos State Ambulance Services (LASAMBUS) responded promptly, administering critical first aid before transporting the injured victims to the Lagos State Accident and Emergency Centre at Toll Gate for urgent medical care.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the driver was under the influence of alcohol and lost control of the vehicle while travelling at excessive speed. During the rescue operation, LASTMA officials, who were the first responders, recovered N48,200, a phone, and 15 sachets of gin from the vehicle.
Also, officers from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), who were also present at the scene, evacuated the deceased’s body to a morgue in Yaba, while LASTMA operatives towed the wrecked vehicle to the agency’s yard to prevent further traffic disruptions.
Expressing deep regret over the incident, LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and wished a swift and full recovery to the injured victims. He further urged motorists to avoid alcohol consumption while driving, stressing that reckless and impaired driving poses a serious threat to life and property.
