DSS arrests two operatives for alleged N310 million robbery
THE Department of State Service (DSS) has arrested two of its five operatives who allegedly connived with five soldiers to rob a bureau de change (BDC) operator of N310 million in Abuja. The service noted, however, that it had recovered N66 million from the suspects.
A statement yesterday by the service and signed by one Tony Opuiyo said the suspects, Abdulrasheed Maigari and George Ibbi believed to be part of a 10-man robbery gang, comprising five military men and five DSS officials, allegedly undertook the operation on November 20. The Service has arrested two out of five of its staff involved in the robbery and sharing, on 20th November, 2015, of the sum of three hundred and ten million naira (N310m) belonging to a Bureau De Change operator in Abuja. While three of the DSS staff are now at large, the military authorities have commenced a detailed investigation of five of its personnel involved in the crime,” the statement read in part.
It further disclosed that Maigari led four of his colleagues while a military captain superintended the other group, going by the preliminary investigation carried out by the DSS.
“Abdulrasheed Ahmadu Maigari of the DSS conspired with four other colleagues of his namely Solomon Inusa, Peter Okoye, Patrick Ishaya and George Mwatapwa Ibbi, to carry out this reprehensible act. The five military personnel were led by one Capt. Hussein Ishaku Mshelia.
Meanwhile, the Service has arrested Maigari and Ibbi and Mshelia is equally being arrested by the army authorities. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend those still at large.
A total of sixty-six million four hundred and thirty seven thousand, four hundred and forty-five naira (N66,437,445.00) and six thousand two hundred dollars ($6,200) have so far been recovered, while efforts are being made to recover the remaining amount,” Opuiyo said.

The world is comic to an end! It’s a shocking and reprehensible that with all the previledges accruing to their uniforms and offices these chosen Nigerians will rubbish the opportunity given to them.
I hope and pray that the judge that handles this case will hand down the harshest and maximum sentence if they are found guilty.
If there is a case in which i think death penalty is appropriate, this is one. The name of the department says it all State Security. People that are charged with the security of the Nigerian State must know the weight and ramifications of such a responsibility to which adequate authority is assigned to them. When you abuse or subordinate the security of Nigerian state to your personal gratification for whatever reason, such an individual or group of persons do not deserve to belong to the Nigerian state to which they were born hence they should be extinguished. I cannot believe this is happening in 2015 Nigeria. I am sure these people including their military co-conspirators have some level of education and through that they should have known that what they were doing-Robbery is a complete breach of the trust Nigerian state reposed in them and an abuse of the uniform and organization they belong to! Don’t they know that if a US President or any top official or legislator in the US violates the Official Oath of Secrecy Act, such a person will be condemned to death?
