Easter: CAN urges Christians to promote dialogue, reconciliation

APC harps on sacrifice as PDP tasks leaders on selflessness

Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has urged all Christians to use this Easter season as a time for deep reflection, earnest prayer and spiritual renewal.  In his Easter message yesterday, the President of CAN, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, also emphasised the need to promote dialogue and reconciliation, working towards greater unity within communities and across the nation.

This was as the All Progressives Congress (APC) enjoined Nigerians to embrace the priceless values and virtues embodied in Jesus’ death and resurrection. However, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) charged the country’s political leadership to adopt a selfless and pro-people attitude to promote good governance across the country.

Okoh noted that Easter stands as the cornerstone of the Christian faith, reminding us of the ultimate sacrifice made by Jesus Christ for the redemption of humanity. He stated that the resurrection of Jesus Christ was a powerful testament to God’s might, offering us hope, forgiveness and the promise of eternal life.

According to him, the resurrection affirms that light will always triumph over darkness, and love will conquer fear; hence, Christians should draw strength from this truth and continue to support one another in faith.

SPECIFICALLY, APC called on Nigerians to embrace hope, patience, sacrifice and resilience.

In a statement yesterday, by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the ruling party said the Easter celebration represented God’s everlasting victory over death and the triumph of light over darkness.

The statement reads, “Easter, the joyful end of the Lenten season of fasting and penitence, is core to the Christian faith, as it commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It symbolises God’s eternal triumph over death and the power of light over darkness.

“As we celebrate, we enjoin Nigerians to embrace hope, patience, sacrifice and resilience, some of the priceless values and virtues immanent in Jesus’ death and resurrection. We join Christians in prayer that the transformative blessings of Easter abide with all Nigerians, strengthen President Bola Tinubu in his determination to tackle and overcome outstanding socio-economic challenges confronting our nation.”

IN a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, yesterday, PDP charged “all leaders at all levels, sectors and spheres to use the occasion of Easter celebration for deeper introspection and rededicate themselves to a life of selfless service and pursuit of common good as exemplified in the life, teachings, sacrificial death and triumphant resurrection of Jesus Christ to bring redemption to mankind.”

Against this backdrop, the PDP restated its demand on the APC-led Federal Government to rescind all its anti-people and life-discounting policies, address the ravaging insecurity, hunger and economic hardship in the country.

It urged Nigerians to use the period to renew their hope in the assurance of God’s unfailing love and intervention in the affairs of the country and humanity.

PDP also charged Nigerians “to use the import of the Easter, which signifies the ultimate triumph of God’s saving grace over adverse circumstances to reawaken their determination and hope for the much-desired national rebirth as a solution for the quagmires of hardship, insecurity and uncertainty pervading the nation under the APC administration.”
