FRSC sensitise drivers on safety rules at Easter

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Thursday in Abuja sensitised drivers at various motor parks on road safety rules to reduce crashes during the Good Friday and Easter Monday holidays.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mr Imoh Etuk , Public Education Officer of the FRSC led a team of personnel to parks in the FCT, to check the state of vehicles.

The team checked the fitness of the drivers to ensure that they were fit to ply the road, and also educate them on the basics of road safety.

While inspecting vehicles and checking if the tyres and their placements were in order, the team discovered that some drivers were not in the right frame of the mind to ply the road.

Etuk said that FRSC used breathalyzers to detect drunk drivers and those that had smoked.

He urged drivers to visit FRSC office to be captured personally for driver’s licence, instead of going through a third-party, to avoid being issued fake license.

“It is a good thing that most of you are free from alcohol, so you can drive and that means that your passengers are in good hands.

“There is also need for you to know how to fix your tyres correctly, not putting the left tyre in the right hand side and vice versa,” he advised

He also advised drivers to drive carefully and avoid over-speeding.

In his remarks,Mr Michael Adeyeye, the Assistant General Secretary, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), FCT Chapter urged members of his union to drive safely during this season.

He reminded them that “the dead cannot celebrate,” adding that they should consider their loved ones.
