Ebonyi: One dies in collapsed five-storey building
One person died yesterday when a five-storey building under construction collapsed at Ngbabor, Presco campus of Ebonyi State University (EBSU) in Ebonyi State.
It was gathered that the five-storey building collapsed at about 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon.
Although normalcy had been restored at the scene of the incident, when The Guardian visited, sympathisers were seen in groups discussing the tragedy, while government officials were inspecting the site to ascertain what happened that led to the incident.
Team of police officers and Neighbourhood Watch also cordoned off the environment to avoid casualty.
One of the neighbours explained that the labourers in the building, who had been working on the site, ran away immediately after the building vibrated and was about to cave in.
Meanwhile, a section of the twin building is still standing, while government officials have warned residents against going close to the site for their own safety.
Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Chris Anyanwu, is yet to react to the incident at press time.
