Christian leaders under the umbrella of Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) have said the next general elections will give Nigerians the opportunity to vote for political leaders that will promote the country’s unity.

It accused President Muhammadu Buhari’s government of dividing Nigerians along ethnic and religious lines.

The General Secretary of ECWA, Rev. Yunusa Nmadu (Jnr.), who addressed journalists on the state of the nation, yesterday, in Kaduna, urged Nigerians not to return bad leaders that would wreck the country.

“We have been so divided over time, but not as much and prominent as it is today. This government has widened the gap. It has divided us because of the appointment they have made over time and the way they have favoured one section of the country.

“How do you want to surmount the insecurity in the country where they have almost all the 17 security chiefs from the same faith and same region? It won’t fly. The people in government know why they are doing that. The division has been orchestrated by the government of the day, by their appointment and the way they do things.”

According to him, no solution is coming too late, but there is no sincere effort to solve the problem.

On the country’s economic situation, the ECWA scribe said: “We don’t need figures to know that we are in a mess. We don’t need figures to know. We are in the fire; heat is bearable, but right now we are inside the fire.

“These people in government do not have any idea. They have run out of ideas on how to fix this country and that is what I think should bother us more. They are waiting on their time to be over and it is a long wait. We have about seven months, and a lot of damage will be done. I am worried that our people are not only clueless but have resigned to fate and are just waiting on their time.”

The ECWA scribe urged Nigerians to vote wisely in 2023 against politicians that may want to use religion and ethnicity to divide the country and plunge it into crisis.
