The Accord Party in Edo State has approached the Federal High Court, Benin City to restrain Don Pedro Obaseki from going about as the party’s candidate for the September 10, 2016 governorship election in the state.

An ex parte motion, filed by state party chairman, Samson Isibor and one Rev. Isaac Adeniyi, joined Lawal Nalado as first, Nuremi Adisa, second; Obaseki, third and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), fourth defendants in the suit.

The motion sought an order “restraining the first and second defendants from parading themselves as National Executive Committee (NEC) officers” of the party pending the determination of the suit.

The plaintiffs also prayed the court to restrain INEC from dealing with the first to third defendants as national officers and gubernatorial standard-bearer of the party.

The state chapter has been embroiled in crisis since its primary held a couple of weeks ago following an alleged imposition of a candidate.

Meanwhile, an association, the Edo Integration Group (EIG), yesterday lauded the emergence of former president of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Philip Shaibu, as running mate to the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Godwin Obaseki.

A statement by its chairman and secretary, Destiny Obasuyi and Dave Olowojoba, said: “The emergence of Hon. Shaibu did not come to many of us a surprise as he has been an embodiment of selfless service and an advocate of the masses for several years.’’
