Edo State House of Assembly has impeached its Deputy Speaker, Victor Edoror, and suspended two other lawmakers for three months.
Edoror has since been replaced with a former Speaker, Justin Okonobor, who was earlier impeached by the House sometimes last year. Okonobor represents Igueben Constituency and was immediately nominated as the new deputy speaker.
The lawmakers also suspended the member representing Etsako I Constituency, Gani Audu, his Owan East counterpart, Foly Ogedengbe, for three months respectively over alleged unruly behaviour.
Chief Whip of the House, Osaigbovo Iyoha, moved the motion for the impeachment notice purportedly signed by 16 members, who accused the deputy speaker of misappropriation of funds, corruption and act of desperation capable of throwing the House into confusion.
The impeachment motion was seconded by the member representing Akoko Edo Constituency II, Emmanuel Agbaje, amid rumbles.
The development led to pandemonium in the Assembly Complex as security operatives shot in the air to disperse angry supporters of the embattled lawmakers who allegedly attempted to stop the processes.
Meanwhile, the House Committee on Education has assured the management of Edo University, Iyamho, of the committee’s readiness towards the speedy completion of the ongoing projects in the university.
Chairman of the committee, Osaigbovo Iyoha, gave the assurance when he led other members to the university for on-the-spot assessment of the facilities available in the university.
In a related vein, the Lagos State House of Assembly has described as rumour the insinuation that it was planning to impeach the governor of the state, Akinwunmi Ambode.
The Assembly, however, noted that the governor could be impeached if his actions deserve so, adding that the lawmakers could not be intimidated by any.
Speaker of the House, Mudashiru Obasa, who spoke at the plenary session yesterday, alleged that the rumour of impeachment emanated from Solidarity Group of Nigeria and a faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
