THE Edo State House of Assembly yesterday approved the sack ing of two council chairmen, Osaro Obazee of Oredo local government and Emmanuel Momoh of Etsako Central local government who have been on suspension since June last year.

Two others; Victor Enobakhare of Egor and Roland Ibieorutonmwen of Orhionmwon who have also been on suspension were however recalled while The Guardian reliably gathered that another council chairman (name withheld) who was earlier cleared of corrupt practices by the house of assembly would be arraigned by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) at the Federal High Court in Benin City today.

As at the time of this report, The Guardian gathered that the said chairman was already at the ICPC’s office in Benin City.

The lawmakers said the two chairmen were indicted by the panel of inquiry that investigated allegations against them.

The lawmakers said the panel’s report did not indict Enobakhare and Ibieorutonmwen, adding that both chairmen were not given fair hearing.

However, Obazee yesterday described his sack as ‘laughable and very unfortunate’

Speaking with newsmen, he said “I would like to make one or two statement as regards the position of the house of assembly towards my earlier suspension. I was never invited to the panel to defend myself. My own position is clear, it is laughable that the comrade governor who is a beneficiary of the rule law, could constitute himself in this way and manner to the extent that he committed contempt of court by not waiting for the judgment. This is a matter in which judgment has been slated for later part of this month and we all expect that the court will be the final arbiter in this issue.

“It is very unfortunate yesterday they went ahead to say that I have been relieved of my office, which powers I have been challenging. Now that the matter is before a court of competent jurisdictions, its laughable and very unfortunate that the people who swore to uphold the law are now the people disobeying the law”
