State govt tasks contractors on prompt delivery of projects
The solicitors to the 18 local council areas in Edo, yesterday, cautioned banks against tampering with the councils’ official accounts.

The warning followed the suspension of the local government chairmen and their deputies by the state’s House of Assembly.
The is contained in a notice sent to banks in the country by Uzzi Law Company, acting on behalf of the 18 council chairmen, which was made available to newsmen in Benin.
The notice, signed by Oluwole Uzzi, said that dealing with unauthorised individuals or groups aside from the duly elected local council chairmen would attract legal consequences.
He said this was because the banks would be seen to have violated subsisting court orders, disregarding the injunctions of the Supreme Court as well as that of the Edo High Court.
Uzzi, therefore, urged the banks to ignore attempts to open new accounts or operate existing ones without written authorisation from the democratically elected chairmen.
IN another development, the Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has urged contractors handling various projects in the state to deliver as scheduled to avoid being dragged into the rainy season.
In a statement yesterday, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Fred Itua, quoted Okpebholo as saying this while inspecting the ongoing construction of the first flyover in Benin City, a landmark project being undertaken by his administration.
Expressing satisfaction with the work done so far, Okpebholo stated that his administration is focused on delivering tangible projects rather than signing Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs).
“We are practical people, not MoUs. You can see for yourself the progress made. Building a flyover is not something you rush into, but I am confident in the contractor’s capacity and the quality of work being delivered.”
During an inspection of the Upper Ekenwan Road construction, the governor directed contractors to accelerate their efforts and work round the clock to ensure completion before the rainy season.
