Edo NLC chair denies alleged parallel leadership

Odion Olaye
Edo State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Chairman, Odion Olaye, yesterday, said the council has no parallel leadership, as he remains the duly elected chairman recognised by the national leadership of the NLC.

Olaye, who addressed newsmen in Benin following the alleged interference in the activities of the NLC in Edo, said: “There is no dispute in Edo NLC, neither is there room for acting chairman. Only one or two imposters tried to cause a crisis in Edo NLC, but the National Executive Council (NEC), at a meeting in Owerri, reached a decision and sanctioned all of them.

“I remain the duly elected and authentic Chairman of NLC, Edo State Council,” Olaye said.

Olaye said the council is under his leadership, denying any form of dispute or crisis in the state. He said those fomenting trouble are imposters who came into the NLC from the back door and have since been suspended for anti-union activities.

While he condemned efforts by some unionists, including one Berna Joman, to hijack the union, Olaye said that the Edo State Council of the NLC, led by him as its state chairman, has referred the matter to the national leadership, which has since intervened by sanctioning all those involved.

Olaye added that he remains the chairman of the union till 2027 and that he reserves the right to seek re-election. He equally debunked insinuations in some quarters that he has been deposed by the state union of NURTW, which, according to him, was a subject of litigation.
