EFCC grills Kwara ex-gov for alleged financial impropriety

Former Kwara Governor Abdulfatahi Ahmed.

Former governor of Kwara State, Abdulfatah Ahmed, yesterday, played guest to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ilorin Zonal Command, over alleged financial complicity while in office.

Abdulfatah, a financial expert, was Kwara State governor between 2011 and 2019.

The Guardian learnt that the former helmsman was at the EFCC office about 9am and was still held as at the time of filing this report.

An impeccable source at the EFCC (name withheld) hinted: “Yes, the immediate past governor is here; he got here in the morning and he is still with us.”

Though details of the story were still under wraps at press time, the source said he was invited over controversy surrounding some projects during his tenure.

Meanwhile, former press secretary to the governor, Wahab Oba, said Ahmed’s visit to the EFCC was procedural and routine.

“He was invited and he honoured them as he had always done. He is always ready to respond to any query regarding his tenure as governor of the state. There is nothing unusual about the invitation and his honouring the anti-graft agency,” he told The Guardian.
