Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger State has called on residents to continue offering fervent prayers for peace, growth, and sustainable development in the state and Nigeria at large.
The Governor made the appeal shortly after observing the two obligatory Eid prayers at the Minna Eid ground. He was represented by his Deputy, Comrade Yakubu Garba.
While expressing gratitude to Allah for His mercies and guidance, Bago urged citizens to engage in sober reflection and also pray for the victims of the recent flood disaster in Mokwa Local Government Area.
He warned residents, particularly those living near riverbanks and farmers operating around water bodies, to exercise caution in light of forecasts by weather experts predicting further flooding this year.
Also speaking, former Governor of Niger State, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, noted that every Islamic celebration is an act of sacrifice, emphasizing that Eid-el-Kabir is a reminder of total submission to the will of Allah.
He called on Nigerians to unite, forgive one another, pray sincerely, and show compassion to the less privileged in society.
In his sermon, the Chief Imam of Minna, Malam Jibril Imam, urged Muslims to reflect on the teachings of the festival of sacrifice and strive to draw closer to Allah through worship and righteous conduct.
The Eid prayer was well attended and graced by several dignitaries, including the Emir of Minna, Alhaji Umar Farouk Bahago; former Governor Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu; Secretary to the State Government, Abubakar Usman; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Usman Gbatamangi; Deputy Chief of Staff, Sadiq Yusuf; Commissioners; and other political office holders.
