Eight persons were confirmed dead, while seven others sustained injuries in a road traffic accident involving a Ford transit bus and a DAF truck at the Olorunpodo 13 Area, along Sagamu-Benin Expressway.

Confirming the incident to journalists in Abeokuta, yesterday, Ogun State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr. Clement Oladele, said the driver of the truck with registration number, KRD 908 XN, caused the accident. He said he drove against the traffic and collided with the bus, registration number ETU 409 XA.

“The truck was loaded and heading towards Benin before it had a head-on collision with the bus, which was coming from Benin and heading towards Ijebu-Ode/Sagamu en route Lagos.

“The accident involved 26 people. While seven people sustained various degrees of injury, eight were killed, two females and five males,” Oladele said.

The Sector Commander disclosed that the corpses of the victims had been deposited in a morgue at the Ijebu-Ode General Hospital, while the injured were admitted at Hope Hospital, around Area J4.

Oladele warned motorists to desist from route violation, saying the FRSC would sanction any driver caught moving against the traffic.
