Ekiti governor, Fayemi, signs executive order on free, compulsory education
The Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has signed the executive order on free and compulsory education in the state primary and secondary schools.
Also, he ordered stiffer penalties for school principals and head teachers who extort money from students in the name of levies and fees in Ekiti primary and secondary schools.
Fayemi, who stated this yesterday in Ado-Ekiti, said his action was as a result of allegation levelled against some principals and head teachers who after government’s pronouncement of free education were still extorting students under voluntary donations.
He said the executive order would prevent any of such illegalities in schools, eliminate school dropout and as well encourage children enrolment.
He, therefore, urged parents to report any head of school who asked their children for money to the ministry of education for necessary action.
