El-Rufai bans social gathering in public places during Sallah
THE Kaduna State Government has taken stern measures against attack by Boko Haram insurgents during the Sallah celebration, as it has barred citizens from social gathering in public places and event centers in the state.
Members of the State Security Council, led by Governor Nasir El-Rufai met at the Government House yesterday, where they cautioned citizens to be security conscious during the festival and avoid gathering at major event centres in the state during the period.
In a statement after the security council meeting, signed by the Media Aide to the Governor, Malam Samuel Aruwan, the government said, “the council examined measures to enhance security of lives and property in the state, and reaffirmed the need to continue to engage citizens in building and maintaining security awareness.”
Aruwan stated: “The Security Council commended members of the general public for supporting the Kaduna State Government and the security agencies to uphold peace and order in the state. The Council noted that soft targets have been attacked in several states, including ours.”
He pointed out that, “Government is therefore obliged to take actions to protect citizens and increase security activity. Therefore enhanced security measures will be put implemented in places of worship, including prayer grounds. Government regrets any inconvenience to citizens that may arise from such restrictions and security activity.”
Aruwan argued that, “in other to ensure hitch-free Eid-el-Kabir celebrations and safeguard security of lives and property in the course of the Sallah festivities, the Security Council has taken measures”, adding, “all parks and recreational centres, including Gamji Gate Park, the Amusement Park, Kaduna, and other related places will not be open for social gathering.”
But he explained that, “Murtala Muhammad Square, Kaduna, will, as usual, host Eid prayers; it will, however, not be open for any social gathering or celebration except for the prayers as stated.”
