Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai has extended the 24-hour curfew to Jema’a and Kaura local councils. He had earlier placed Kauru and Zangon-Kataf local councils under curfew.

Governor Nasir El-Rufai, on his Twitter handle, said gunmen attacked three villages on Friday and killed nine persons. He said the 24-hour curfew would take place with immediate effect to contain violence, enforce order and protect lives.

Meanwhile, the Kaduna Peace Commission, in partnership with Mercy Corps, organised a two-day training for reconciliation committees from the crises axis, as part of an effort to end the crisis.

Executive Vice-Chair, Kaduna Peace Commission, Priscilla Ankut, said the training would provide additional skills and capacity to make them more educated and competent to handle emerging conflicts in the axis.

“No fewer than 50 gunmen invaded Zikpak and shot sporadically before taking over the Ungwan Masara and Maraban Kagoro. Eleven people sustained injuries.  Houses were also burnt.  The three affected communities were Zikpak, Ungwan Masara, in Fantsuam Chiefdom of Jema’a Council and Maraban Kagoro, in Kaura Council.

When contacted, the Kaduna State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Mohammed Jalige neither picked nor returned the calls, as at the time of filing this report.
