Ahead of governorship and State House of Assembly elections,  Akwa Ibom State  Police Commissioner (CP), Olatoye Durosinmi,  has pledged that the police and other security agencies would work in synergy and perform better during the exercise.

Durosinmi, who disclosed this during citizens engagement in Uyo, said security agencies are more prepared to correct all lapses during the Presidential and National Assembly election. He added that security would jointly be deployed to different polling units, especially flash point areas.

The commissioner advised hoodlums to stay away during the rescheduled election as the Command would not tolerate acts capable of compromising the polls. He said: “We have made adequate preparation for the elections, and we have what it takes to ensure a free and fair poll. All our troubled zones will be adequately covered. We have massive deployments to all the zones in the state.

“Some suspects were arrested during the last elections, and there were some security men among them. The criminals are being investigated and the security officers among them are undergoing orderly room procedure and anyone found guilty will be sanctioned.”

Durosinmi said he has just added eight vehicles fitted with new engines and brand new tires in the state police Command’s fleet, adding that they will be handy to respond to emergencies before, during and after the  election.

On the allegation that some people, who lost at the last election are preparing to attack voters as a revenge for their loss, the CP said there is no cause for alarm, stressing that officers and men are ready to protect all citizens that are prepared to vote during elections. He urged stakeholders to come out with useful information to help the police perform better.

“You are in a better position to tell us what went wrong and what went well, so that we know those good things and improve on them, and if there are lapses, we can go back to the drawing board and correct them to have a free and fair governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections,” he added.

Meanwhile, stakeholders at the meeting commended security agencies for the feat recorded during the polls. They, however, expressed disappointment with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the conduct of the elections and called on the electoral umpire to improve on its lapses achieve free and fair polls.
