Former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, said on Saturday that he was impressed by the accreditation process for the Presidential and National Assembly elections in the FCT.

Gowon, who is an observer in the general elections, said this when he visited Ward 001A in Karu Local Government Area of FCT.

He commended voters for conducting themselves peacefully, adding that the development was an indication that the elections would not only be free, fair and credible but also peaceful.

“I am here to observe what is going on and I can see that it’s been going on very well. I am happy about that.

“It is orderly and you people are doing well. I am very pleased to see people ready to vote and the turnout is exceptionally good and I believe the result will certainly be good.

“From what I have seen at all the polling stations I visited throughout Nyanya and Karu I can say that things are going on very well.

“I also commend the Youth Corps members who are the ad hoc staff,” he said.

He also the success of the election should make every Nigerian to be proud anywhere in the world.

Similarly, Mrs Ngozi Festus, an observer from Africa Peace Foundation, an NGO, expressed satisfaction with the process of accreditation at Ward 004, Chief’s Palace, Karu.

She commended the peaceful conduct of voters and efforts of INEC officials to ensure hitch-free elections.

Festus, however, expressed concern that accreditation commenced two hours behind schedule at some polling stations.

“I have observed that the process is going fine. Everything is going on peacefully. Electoral materials are also in place and complete,” she told newsmen.
