Electoral College Nigeria graduates 17th cohort

In pursuit of its mission to cultivate politically active citizens, the Electoral College Nigeria has graduated the 17th cohort of its Politeracy and Governance 101 Programme.

The graduation ceremony marked another milestone in deepening political literacy across Africa. The virtual event brought together students, alumni, mentors, and changemakers from across the continent and the Diaspora, united by a shared commitment to responsible governance and active citizenship.

Executive Director of the body, Kunle Lawal, explained that with over 1,000 registered participants from diverse backgrounds, Cohort 17 graduates underwent months of rigorous learning, combining academic instruction with practical engagement to simplify governance concepts and promote civic responsibility.

He noted that with each new cohort, the body sharpens its approach to equipping future leaders who understand not only the mechanics of governance but also the ethical responsibility that comes with influence.

According to him, the programme’s 29-module curriculum spanned foundational topics like the Executive, the Legislative, and the Judiciary, as well as critical areas, such as governance and corruption, the Electoral Act, the role of opposition in politics, and misinformation and disinformation.

He stated that with over 15,000 associates across 17 cohorts, the body continues to be a trailblazer in the civic education space, nurturing a new generation of informed citizens prepared to drive democratic change across Nigeria and the continent.

In a keynote address, a media personality and good governance advocate, Anto Lecky, who spoke on ‘Mobilising a New Generation for Nigeria’s Democratic Future,” urged the graduates to rise above passivity and turn their knowledge into action.
