Senator representing Adamawa North Senatorial District, Elisha Abbo, has retracted his earlier claims that Senate president Godswill Akpabio had a hand in his removal by the Court of Appeal.

Abbo made the apology in an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday, October 18, 2023.

The Court of Appeal in Abuja, on Monday, October 16, nullified the election of Abbo and declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Amos Yohanna, as the winner of the February 25 senatorial election.

The Court of Appeal agreed that according to Section 137 of the Electoral Act, 2022, the results tendered in the February elections clearly showed that there was no compliance with the Electoral Act.

It went on to deduct the invalid votes from the parties and it showed that Yohanna and PDP won the election via a majority of lawful votes.

Justice C.E. Nwosu-Iheme, who headed the three-member panel, ordered INEC to issue a Certificate of Return to Yohanna as validly elected lawmaker for the senatorial district.

Reacting to the outcome, Abbo had blamed his fate on the Senate President, alleging that he had a hand in the unfavourable court judgment against him.

However, he has now come out take back to retract his statement blaming Akpabio.

“I have to say this with all sense of humility and responsibility that the press release we issued yesterday was premature and based on the available information at our disposal yesterday.

“As of today, we have discovered a lot of things, and yesterday night, I had a discussion with the Senate President, and I am convinced that he is not involved.

“For a number three citizen to come up to tell me that he has sworn on his mother’s grave, a woman that he loves so much, a woman who brought him up after he lost his father at the age of six, I don’t see a reason why he would lie.”
