Embrace pig farming, Osun govt. urges citizens
Gov. Ademola Adeleke of Osun has called on indigenes to embrace pig rearing and other forms of farming to boost food production in the state.
Adeleke, represented by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food security, Mr. Tola Faseru, made the call at a one-day training and empowerment for people living with disabilities on Thursday in Osogbo.
The governor also said that with 50 percent of Osun indigenes embracing such farming, it would reduce poverty in the state.
He said that his administration would continue to support farmers in the state to ensure food abundance and security.

According to him, the recent procurement of tractors to boost production of food and cash crops in the state attested to this fact that our administration is committed to the well being of its citizens.
Also, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Moruf Olawale, commended the governor for setting a record that no other government has ever done in the sector.
Olawale advised indigenes to embrace pig farming in view of its profitability and high protein content.
He noted that the event which was attended by notable pig farmers in the state is climaxed by free distribution of pig feeds to notable pig farmers by the state government.

In their separate remarks, the Special Adviser to the governor on Agriculture and Food Security , Mr. Olaniran Atidade and Director of Livestock in the Ministry, Mr. Sunday Oguntoye, urged farmers not to shy away from pig farming to help boost their income and food sustainability.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event witnessed the presence of some resource persons and key stakeholders as participants.
