Governor Peter Mbah, yesterday, announced cash awards of between N10,000 and N25,000 to civil servants in Enugu State till next April 2024.
He assured that the new minimum wage negotiation would conclude soon.
He reiterated that the welfare of workers remained the priority of his administration.
The governor also increased enrolment into the state’s social register from 43,000 to 260,000, promising to lift more indigent citizens through cash transfers and other social interventions.
He made the pronouncements at a joint media briefing with labour leaders at Government House, Enugu.
Mbah told his audience that his government was fashioning out other social interventions apart from the cash transfers to better the lives of workers.
He reiterated the determination of his administration to achieve zero per cent poverty headcount index by 2031, stating that the state had set aside N1.5 billion for social development programmes like water and sanitation in communities besides constructing 260 model primary healthcare centres and 260 smart schools with accompanying teachers’ quarters.
State NLC chairman, Fabian Nwigbo and his Trade Union Congress (TUC) counterpart, Bennett Asogwa, lauded the governor for the proactive steps.
