Over 600 council, zonal and ward executives of G17 in Enugu State, at the weekend, visited Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi at the Government House, Enugu to declare their support for the governor in determining his successor ahead of the 2023 governorship poll.
Speaking at the event, Director General of G17, Hon. Sunday Ajogwu, commended Ugwuanyi for his administration’s development strides in the state and his achievements, describing him as “the master of rural roads.”
Ajogwu, who described Ugwuanyi as a peaceful man and the Grand Patron of G17, disclosed that the greatest achievement of this government is the peace we enjoy today in Enugu State, adding: “We do not take that for granted.”
He commended the governor for peace and security in Enugu State, insisting that his accomplishments in Enugu State were too numerous to mention.
“On behalf of the members of the G17 in the 260 wards in Enugu State, we assure Ugwuanyi that we are intact, loyal, motivated and ready for you to speak and you will see the wonders of the original G17”.
“This is just the tip of the iceberg. This is the leadership of G17. Our G17 is not the G17 of social media. This is the original G17. We are on ground. Our leadership comprises the Director General, three Zonal Heads, 17 LG Coordinators, 19 executives in each of the 17 councils, 17 council directors and 260 coordinators at the ward level,” he said.
Speaking separately, the three Heads of G17 in Enugu East, Enugu West and Enugu North senatorial districts, Okey Mbah, Destiny Nnagbo and Chris Onodugo, restated the G17 stance that they will follow Ugwuanyi’s direction when the time comes, stressing that they would fully support him.
On her part, the Woman leader of the group, Mrs. Lizzy Ani, applauded Ugwuanyi for being gender sensitive by using a woman as his deputy and appointing other women into government positions and reassured the governor that the women at the grassroots level were behind his administration and would support his decisions on 2023.
In his goodwill message, Basil Ani, pointed out that the group has the capacity to mobilise people and has “worked assiduously and tirelessly for the past five years behind the scenes in our various local governments to get G17 to where it is today.
The group, therefore, assured of its readiness to partner with Ugwuanyi in mobilising Enugu people to ensure that his successor is elected for the 2023 elections.
Present at the event were the patrons of the group in Enugu North and Enugu West senatorial districts, Ikeje Asogwa and Anayo Onwuegbu.
