Envy hinders progress, Apostle Achudume preaches at wife’s memorial

Apostle Lawrence Achudume, Lead Pastor of Victory Life Bible Church International, has warned against the destructive effects of envy and jealousy, urging believers to embrace the unique grace of God upon their lives. He gave the admonition during the one-year remembrance service of his wife, Rev. Fola Achudume, held at Victory Cathedral, along Ajebo Road in Abeokuta.

Preaching on the theme “Limitless,” Apostle Achudume stressed that envy and jealousy can severely hinder personal progress and fuel unnecessary conflict and bitterness. He noted that these emotions often manifest through anger and resentment towards others who appear more successful.

“Envy and jealousy can breed discord, discouragement, and bitterness in people’s lives,” he said. “When individuals allow these emotions to consume them, they become embroiled in conflicts and struggles that can hinder their progress and development.”

He emphasised that all achievements are rooted in God’s grace, urging individuals to appreciate their own divine allocation rather than coveting what belongs to others. “What God has graced one person with may differ from what God has graced another with. Therefore, it’s essential for people to stand in their lane and focus on the grace given to them,” he said.

According to him, God’s grace empowers individuals to fulfil their purpose, succeed, and overcome challenges. He encouraged the congregation to walk boldly in that grace, referencing Romans 8:35–39 as assurance that nothing can separate believers from the love of God.

Paying tribute to his late wife, Apostle Achudume described Rev. Fola Achudume as “an amiable and very gracious woman” who never strayed from her God-given path. “She focused on doing what God asked her to do without comparison or competition with others. Her life was a testament to the power of God’s grace, and her legacy continues to inspire many,” he said.

The remembrance service also featured an empowerment programme hosted by Royal Ladies International, a non-governmental organisation founded by the late Rev. Fola Achudume. Themed “Limitless,” the programme provided support to widows and the elderly. Pastor Dolapo Adelakun, who ministered at the event, encouraged women to pursue continuous growth and development, irrespective of life’s limitations.
