A RETIRED Deputy Director in one of the federal ministries, Mr. Henshaw Akpan, has said it is saddening that Nigeria depends on oil revenues alone and unfortunate that the oil prices are sliding on a daily basis and so this year’s predicated oil revenues is already being threatened.

“When this does not come, it means the purchasing power of the average Nigerian would be at zero level this year. 

“Even the job creation the government promised the people in the budget may be difficult to accomplish, because without the expected funds, government may be chasing shadows in its determination to create jobs.”
 
Akpan said the purchasing power of civil servants would be very low, “because as we speak, many of them are yet to take their one, two or three months salaries.

“The issue of lack of policy direction is also very bad presently. Today, nobody knows whether we are in a welfarist, socialist or capitalists system.
