Former member who represented Oguta constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly from 2003 to 2007, Chief Ethelbert Nnanna, has died. The late Nnanna died during a brief illness, at the age of 69.
His demise was confirmed in a statement on Thursday by a family member, Golden Nnaemeka Nnanna, regretting that the family, friends and associates had lost “a man of integrity, service, and unwavering commitment to humanity, whose life impacted politics, business, and grassroots development in Imo State.”
The statement by the family disclosed that the deceased was born in Umuomara, Obeama Agwa in Oguta LGA, adding that he began his career in public service before moving into politics.
The statement disclosed that the late politician and community leader, was on expiration of his membership of the Imo State House of Assembly, was appointed the Chairman, Transition Committee of Oguta Local Government Area (LGA).
Later, he was also appointed by a former Governor of Imo State, Chief Ikedi Ohakim, as the Special Adviser on Contact and Mobilization to the Governor.
The family continued that the deceased had worked at the then Imo State Environmental Sanitation Authority and later at Adapalm in Ohaji, where he rose to managerial positions before venturing into politics.
The source added that beyond elective office, the late lawmaker was deeply involved in traditional and community leadership, having held the title of Chief and Traditional Prime Minister of Mbano Autonomous Community, Agwa, Oguta LGA.
Aside his traditional background, the family informed that the deceased was the Knight of St. John International, and the Chairman/ Chief Executive Officer of Complimentary Hotel and Suites, Owerri.
Commenting on the death of the late Nnanna, the Special Adviser to Governor Hope Uzodimma on Public Orientation, Collins Ughalaa, described the former state legislator as dependable and honest, stressing, “Nnanna’s life impacted politics, business, and community development in Imo State. He will be remembered for his wisdom, kindness, and dedication to community development.”
