Ex-Majority Leader, Doguwa, defeats NNPP’s candidate at tribunal

Alhassan Doguwa

The Kano House of Representatives Election Petition Tribunal has upheld the victory of former Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, as the lawful winner of Tudun-Wada/Doguwa Federal Constituency election in Kano State.

Doguwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was declared winner and returned elected, having defeated Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Salisu Yushau (rtd) of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the February 2023 polls.

In a judgment delivered, yesterday, the tribunal dismissed the petition of Yushau for lacking in merit, saying that the petitioner has failed to prove his argument and justify allegations beyond reasonable doubt.

The three-man panel, presided by Justice L.B. Owolabi, said all the three grounds prayed by the petitioner against Doguwa were baseless and could not be substantiated enough to overturn the election.

The panel members, in a unanimous judgment, held that all the 32 witnesses brought by the petitioner could not give enough evidence to truncate the election.
