Ex-senator flays state of Abia hospital, donates ambulance, others
A former representative of Abia North Senatorial District, Mao Ohuabunwa, has decried the deplorable condition of Arochukwu General Hospital in his constituency.
He lamented that the hospital that served as a referral healthcare facility for the people and neighbouring communities of Akwa Ibom State had become a ghost of itself.
He spoke while presenting an ambulance and medical items worth over N35 million to the hospital, through the Arochukwu Town Union at the weekend, stressing that the items should be used strictly for medical purposes.
The items include large quantities of basic drugs and hospital disposables such as infusions, catheters, syringes, and generating sets to revamp the facility.
He lamented that drivers used to convey corpses and sometimes firewood with the ambulance earlier attracted to the hospital by his elder brother, Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa, and cautioned against such abuse of privileges.
Vice Chairman of the Arochukwu Town Union, Dozie Udensi, who received the donations on behalf of the community, commended Ohuabunwa for his gesture, describing him as an asset to the Arochukwu nation and assured him of the judicious use of the items.
