Ex-Yar’Adua’s aide promises to settle N75b pensions debt in Delta
Former Principal Secretary to the late President Musa Yar’adua, Olorogun Edevbie David, yesterday, promised to offset N75 billion owed pensioners in Delta State, within one year.
He made the promise when he declared his intention to run for the governorship position in the state in 2023.
Edevbie, a two-time finance commissioner in the state, who sought for a level-playing field during the PDP primaries, said his government would ameliorate the plight of pensioners, who had always found themselves in precarious situation, or even died in the process of collecting their pensions.
He said though Governor Ifeanyi Okowa government had done its best for pensioners, he would do more.
Edevie, a graduate of Harvard School of Business, also promised to offer youths and women 60 per cent political appointments.
“We cannot continue to say the youths are the leaders of tomorrow without involving them in whatever we do in the state.”
Chairman of the Delta State PDP, Mr. Kingsley Esiso, lauded the courage of Edevbie and advised him to meet with the party delegates to actualise his drums, saying: “There is no man that would tell 3, 000 delegates who to vote for. Leave rumours and do your job, which is to ensure you have majority of votes cast on congress day.”
