The Presidential executive order signed last week by President Muhammadu Buhari is targeted at helping to move Nigeria away from being a consumer country to an import producing nation.

Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu made the disclosure yesterday at a special consultative meeting with the leadership and parastatals under his ministry in Abuja.

He said the gesture demonstrate the present administration’s commitment to utilize science and technology as a key instrument for realising the economic recovery and growth plan 2017-2020.

Onu added that, the executive order if effectively implemented will help the nation’s drive to develop the necessary local capacity needed to address its present challenges.

Other highlights of the executive order include an outright ban on issuance of visa to foreigners whose skills are available in Nigeria.

The presidential executive order for the planning and execution of project, programmes and contract with science engineering and technology companies was signed by Buhari on February 2, 2018.
