Medical experts have emphasised the need to combine physiology with innovations like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and biosensors, stressing that such integration will strengthen diagnostics, therapies, and overall healthcare systems in the country.

While arguing that such a move will enhance diagnostics, treatments, and overall healthcare across the country, the expert maintained that adoption of AI in the field will enable safer and more effective plant-based treatments.

According to the stakeholders, who converged on the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo State, to discuss how physiology and new technologies can transform healthcare in Nigeria during a two-day Bio-Synergy Conference.

With the conference focused on linking physiological research with modern technological tools to improve national health outcomes, the event brought together medical researchers, technologists, and policymakers to discuss practical ways to modernise the nation’s healthcare infrastructure.

The event also celebrated the 150th anniversary of The Physiological Society.

The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Ebunoluwa Adejuyigbe, noted that conference indicated the institution’s commitment to advancing scientific research and using new technologies to tackle important health issues while positioning Nigeria for innovative and sustainable healthcare solutions.

The Vice Chancellor stated that “this conference reflects our commitment to advancing scientific research and using new technologies to address critical health challenges and position Nigeria for innovative and sustainable healthcare solutions.”

Prof. Chukwuemeka Nwokocha, who delivered the keynote address harped on the role of artificial intelligence in natural product research,

He said: “AI is transforming natural product research by enabling safer and more effective plant-derived treatments.”

Another speaker, Dr. Mega Oyovwi stated that a healthier nation becomes possible when technology, the people, and unified data systems work together.
