The Delta State Police Command has vowed to arrest the fleeing vigilante members suspected of unjustly killing Oghara youths in the neighbouring Mosogar town, Ethiope-West Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

The Guardian had reported that two Oghara men were burned to death by a vigilante group from Mosogar, while two other young men, reportedly shot during the vigilante group’s operation in the Ijomi community of Oghara, were confirmed dead at the Delta State University Teaching Hospital.

However, the Police spokesperson, Bright Edafe, told The Guardian in a telephone chat over the weekend that the police are after the suspects and anyone involved in the extrajudicial killing of the men.

He denied that the Police Commissioner, Olufemi Abaniwonda, summoned the DPO under whose jurisdiction the men were killed but assured that the police would leave no stone unturned in pursuing justice.

He stated that those involved would certainly be arrested and prosecuted, no matter what it took, and appealed to the immediate communities concerned to remain calm and avoid further breaches of law and order.

While keeping the details of how the police intend to apprehend the fleeing suspects undisclosed, SP Bright Edafe reaffirmed the command’s commitment to providing security for all residents of the state.

He, therefore, urged the communities to go about their lawful businesses and report anyone attempting to create unnecessary trouble to the police in a timely manner.
