Detectives at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) annex, Alagbon have reportedly declined bail for one Sunday Jolayemi, an administrative staff of the NNPC Cooperative in Lagos.
He was allegedly arrested on the directive of an NNPC Limited staff who reportedly parades himself as president of the cooperative.
A staff of the cooperative, Mr Sunday Jolayemi, was allegedly denied bail under the instruction of AIG Ochala after questioning on the allegation made by the employee of NNPC Limited that Jolayemi collected a cumulative sum of N7million from the cooperative a
ccount.
“He was granted bail, but the police officers are demanding the sum of N1m from this staff who received a salary last in November 2024,” a cooperative member said.
The condition is traumatising, and he does not have his medication with him. He has written his statement, and a surety came over for his bail.
“However, AIG Margaret Ochalla has demanded for him to come to her office and now demanded for another statement entirely to be written again as we speak.
“He is held in AIG Magaret Ochalla office now. The police headquarters should Kindly help intervene.”
Reacting to the allegation, AIG Ochalla said they did not demand any money from them.
According to her, they failed to provide a reliable surety.
It was alleged that police denied him bail so that he could spend the weekend in detention.
“They will always say that. There was nothing like that. I was the one who asked them to grant him bail to a reliable surety,” Ochalla said.
“They did not bring a reliable surety. He embezzled money, which we have confirmed from our investigation. I don’t like detaining people over the weekend.
“I gave an outstanding order that they should release him, but they could not provide a reliable surety.”
