Fayemi warns corps members against unauthorised journeys, others

Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi has warned corps members posted to the state against indulgence in indiscriminate sex and embarking on journeys without official permission. He also warned them against cultism, Internet scam, drug peddling, kidnapping, prostitution and robbery capable of destroying their lofty dreams.

The governor gave the warning yesterday at the closing ceremony of the 2019 Batch C Stream 1 Orientation Course at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Camp, Ise/Orun/Emure-Ekiti.Fayemi, represented by the Deputy Governor, Bisi Egbeyemi, said that the NYSC scheme had sustained the dream of its founding fathers in nation-building, integration and unity.

While assuring of his administration’s preference for security of lives and property, Fayemi urged the corps members to prioritise their security and welfare.He said they should not hesitate to report strange movements in their area to security outfits.

The governor also charged corps members posted to the state to respect the traditions, values and norms of their host communities. Fayemi, who is also the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), stressed that respect for traditions of the host communities would prevent the corps members from offending the sensibility of the people.

“I admonished you to shun every negative tendency, such as cultism, thuggery, drug peddling, human trafficking, and any form of violence. “Do not indulge in discriminate sex or frivolous journeys without permission from relevant authority,” he said.

The Ekiti State governor, who stressed the need for the corps members to be focused and patriotic in rendering selfless services to the sustenance of peace, unity and development of Ekiti State and the country at large, promised to reward outstanding performance.He, therefore, urged them to support government projects, policies and programmes geared at improving the plight of the masses.

Earlier in her address, the NYSC State Co-ordinator, Mrs. Emmanuella Okpongete, said that the new corps members were exposed to trainings that would enable them contribute their quota to national unity and development. Okpongete reiterated the commitment of the scheme to executing developmental initiatives that would meet the needs of communities across the country.
