The Federal Character Commission (FCC), on Wednesday, said that it has keyed into the renewed hope mandate of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to end marginalization through equity distribution of infrastructural facilities, and economic and social amenities amongst the federating units.

It said that the sensitization aims to ensure the implementation of the commission mandates in tandem with the present administration’s agenda of renewed hope for the country.

Chairman of the FCC, Muheeba Dankaka, disclosed this in Abuja, at the sensitization workshop for stakeholders from South West Geo-political Zone, with the Theme: “Equity Fairness And Justice in the Distribution of Resources as a Tool in Realizing the Renewed Hope Agenda” organized by the FCC.

Dankaka was represented by the federal commissioner representing Ondo State, at the commission, Chief Lawrence Olufemi Omosanya, said that the commission would embark on its mandate diligently to close infrastructure and employment gaps.

“Federal Character Commission has keyed into the renewed hope mandate and mantra of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration,” Dankaka said.

“In the past, things were not done as they should have been done before the formation of the Federal Character Commission. But since the inception, and especially with the current board that came into being in 2020. We have been driving the principles of a federal character.

“There is no doubt that there are a lot of milestones that have shown that the federal character commission is performing its constitutional rules.”

In his remarks, the Federal Commissioner representing Abia State in the commission, Hon Henry Ogbulogo, explained that the sensitization aims at educating stakeholders on the implementation of equitable distribution of infrastructure in line with the commission mandates.

He said: “People are getting aware that this FCC principle is to equitable distribution of resources, appointments and orders. And what we are doing today is to bring the home participant from the Southwest zooms for them to get more knowledge of the principle, we also urge them to try as much as possible to be our eyes to ensure some of the things we are preaching are captured.”

However, in his paper presentation, Special Adviser to the Executive Chairman, of FCC, Mr David Olugbade Fakeye, said, “Nigeria is a country with immense potential, but faced with serious challenges. The renewed hope agenda document contains those bold, pragmatic and ambitious plans and programs of the government, like other governments in the past, to address our problems as a plural society and close existing infrastructural gaps.

“At the core of the agenda lies the quest to revitalize Nigeria, bring about prosperity, unity and integration with the priority areas as food security, ending poverty, economic growth, access to capital, inclusivity, security, infrastructural developments and anti-corruption efforts among others.

“All these pillars revolve around the need for Equity, Fairness and Justice in the distribution rather than accumulating wealth in the hands of few persons.”
