FCT inaugurates investigative panel on Olurunfemi’s death

Senate seeks for sanctions against Maitama General
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) administration, yesterday, inaugurated a panel to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of 33-year-old Ms. Greatness Tolulope Olorunfemi.

Olurunfemi allegedly died after she was pushed out of a moving vehicle along Maitama-Kubwa highway on Tuesday by one/chance syndicate.

According to eyewitnesses, she was allegedly rushed to Maitama General Hospital, and they refused to attend to her, demanding a police report which led to her death.

Consequently, the FCT Minister, Nyesome Wike on Wednesday constituted a nine- member Independent and Investigative Panel, with a charge to ascertain whether negligence contributed to her death.

Inaugurating the panel, yesterday in Abuja, the Mandate Secretary, Health Services & Environment Secretariat (FCT), Dr Dolapo Fasawe urged the panel to ascertain the clinical status of the late Greatness Tolulope as at the time of arrival at the hospital, any progression to and until death, and determine the role of parties in the matter and her unfortunate death.

Fasawe added that the panel has a responsibility to conduct a comprehensive inquiry, collecting and analyzing evidence, interviewing witnesses, and examining relevant documents and records.

According to her, the findings from the investigation are expected to be transparent and unbiased, providing clarity and closure to the deceased’s family and the public.

Meanwhile, the Senate has demanded sanctions against the Maitama General Hospital for manslaughter over negligence in administering treatment to a victim of one chance.

The upper legislative chamber also called for a thorough investigation into the death of Greatness Olorunfemi.
