FCT police arrest suspected firearms supplier, others

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a suspected firearms supplier, Matthew Vaaswem, 30, who supplies guns to suspected kidnap syndicates operating along Tungan Maje in the FCT and Gawu axis of Niger State.

Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Yusuf Mariam, who disclosed this to journalists, said the suspect, who confessed to the crime, was arrested at Tipper-Garage, Gwagwalada by operatives of Gwagwalada Division.

She said preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect belongs to a gunrunning syndicate, adding that effort is on to arrest the fleeing suspects.

Mariam said exhibits recovered from the suspect were two single barrel dane guns and two locally fabricated short guns.

In a related event, operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad, in a joint operation with vigilantes and hunters, have rescued three hostages along Sabon Gari  and Shapete villages on Kwali axis on August 19, 2021.
  
Mariam said the rescued victims, Amina Ahmadu, 20, Furaira Yahaya , 27 and Jahori Umaru, 35, who were taken hostage by armed men in the wee hours of Thursday were rescued during the Joint operation.
  
In another development, police operatives from Gwagwa Division have arrested three suspected armed robbers. Mariam revealed that the suspects, Idris Ibrahim, 21, Adamu Husseini, 19 and Mohammed Hassan, 19, met their waterloo, while attempting to break into their victims residence in Gwagwa.
 
She said they further confessed to being responsible for terrorising Gwagwa axis. She said the suspects would be arraigned in court upon conclusion of investigations, while imploring residents to report all suspicious movements, emergency or distress, through the following numbers: 08032003913, 08061581938, 07057337653 and 08028940883.
