Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has approved the employment of 6,375 teaching and non teaching workers, in the schools across the 27 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.

This was disclosed at the weekend in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Primary and Secondary Education, Prof. Bernard- Thompson O. Ikegwuoha.

 

The Commissioner informed that the Governor had mandated him to begin the issuance of letters to the 6,375 teaching and non teaching members of staff, who were successfully trained recently, at the Benjamin Uwajumogu College of Education, Ihitte Uboma, to be spread across the primary and secondary schools in the state.

 

The statement titled, “To all Imolites, attention: Prospective teachers trained by the Ministry at Benjamin Uwajumogu College of Education, Ihitte Uboma. Re: Immediate issuance of employment letters to 6,375 successful teacher – trainees and non tutorial staff,” states, “I am delighted to bring you wonderful news on behalf of the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education.

 

“Through the magnanimity and benevolence of His Excellency, Distinguished Senator (Dr) Hope Uzodimma, CON, Governor of Imo State, approval has been given to the Hon. Commissioner, Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, to immediately take steps to begin issuing letters of employment to those who were successful during the teacher training programme conducted by the Ministry at the Benjamin Uwajumogu College of Education, Ihitte Uboma.”

 

Breaking down the postings, the statement hinted, “This approval covers 6,030 teachers, subject to further internal verifications to ensure due process and transparency.”

 

On the impact to be created, as a result, Ikegwuoha, said, “This wonderful gesture will take over 6,375 teaching and non-tutorial staff off the labour market and give them meaningful employment;

Drastically reduce the learner-teacher ratio across our public primary and secondary schools; and, strengthen the quality and standard of education in Imo State by adding qualified, trained and committed teachers to our classrooms.”

 

Appreciating Gov Uzodimma for the approval, Ikegwuoha, said: “I, therefore call on every Imolite to join me, the Hon. Commissioner, in expressing our profound, sincere and genuine gratitude to His Excellency, Distinguished Senator (Dr) Hope Uzodimma for this landmark investment in our children and in the future of education in Imo State.”

 

Congratulating those who made the list, the Commissioner told them: “To the successful teacher-trainees, and non tutorial staff, congratulations. The Ministry will communicate the next steps on documentation and collection of employment letters in the coming days via radio announcement.
