#Endbadgovernance Protest

Ahead of the October 1st planned nationwide protest, the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Police Command, CP Bethrand C. Onuoha, has engaged with the executive of the “Take It Back Movement” Kogi State Chapter at the Command Headquarters in Lokoja.

Speaking to our correspondent, SP William Ovye Aya, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, said during the meeting that the CP advised the group to reconsider their planned protest and give the government more time to fix the economy of the nation.

He told the leadership of the group that he called for the engagement meeting in response to their letter received on Friday, 27th September 2024.

He noted that while the group has the right to peaceful protest in accordance with extant laws, the CP, however, said that in order to avoid playing into the hands of disgruntled elements or hoodlums and to prevent them from hijacking the process and unleashing mayhem on innocent citizens, as well as damaging critical infrastructure—which will, in turn, have serious adverse effects on the nation’s economy—there was a need to shelve the planned protest in the state.

In his response, the leader of the group, Moses Opeyemi, assured the CP that as enlightened and law-abiding youths in Kogi State, they accepted his advice as a father and promised to remain committed to the peace, progress, and development of the state.

He further stated that the executive and members of the group would meet to deliberate on all the issues raised by the CP and come up with a reasonable resolution regarding their participation in the protest.

On behalf of the group, he commended the CP for the constructive engagement, which has gone a long way to enlighten them on their responsibilities as youths who are leaders of tomorrow and vanguards for development.

Present at the meeting were DCP Chike Louis Nwabuwa, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, and his assistant, ACP Aigbe Aghahowa, SP William Ovye Aya, PPRO, SP Emmanuel Abogonye, 2IC SID/OC Monitoring Unit, DSP Christopher Okoebor, PA to CP.

Members of the group included: Moses Opeyemi, Coordinator; Oloruntoba Segun; Muhammed Abdul; Ande Joel; Michael John; Musa Matthew; Usman Alfa; Mohammed Usman Ahmed; Ibrahim Shaibu; and Adama Shaibu.
