FEC approves N377.53b contract for infrastructure at extraordinary meeting

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) ‎in their extraordinary meeting Wednesday approved N377.53 billion for the development of infrastructure, which includes roads, power, education, water and health among others across the country.

This is coming barely few days to 2018 and after members sat for over six hours considering half of the memos brought to the Federal Executive Council (FEC) presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Meanwhile, the Council yesterday adjourned deliberations to today.

The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola who briefed State House Correspondents after the adjournment said Council approved variation for the completion of Police Service Commission headquarters in Abuja.

He said the variation of the project was approved by council to enable its completion over the next six months.

He told newsmen that the initial cost was N3.486 billion and later increased to 3.925 billion with a variation of N439.113 million.

He said Council also approved Nnamdi Azikiwe Mausoleum in Anambra State. The project was started but not completed by the immediate past administration.

Fashola said Council approved other road projects including Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria to Kano at the cost of N155.7 billion. Efire-Araromi-Aiyede-Aiyela road to connect Ondo and Ogun states at the cost of N14.4 billion.

The Minister explained that for the Enugu-Onitsha highway the Amansia section, council gave approval for a variations of N38.74 billion to enable the contractor continue work on the project.

Fashola said Council also approved money for the intervention of education and healthcare. It approved the provision of independent power plant for nine universities and one teaching Hospital as the first phase of the pilot programme to cover 37 universities at the cost of N38.965 billion to provide dedicated power to the universities which include street lighting, workshop to train the students post-completion.

The Minister of Water Resources, Suleiman Adamu told newsmen that Council ratified augmentation of funds to complete Adada dam in Igbo-atiti LGA in Enugu State, to provide water to the university town of Nsukka.
