Operatives of the Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety(So-Safe) Corps have arrested a 33-year-old suspect for alleged vandalization and attempted theft of iron fittings used for fencing the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) railway line at Odewale, Agbado area.

The suspect, Fatai Olamilekan, an aluminum fabricator was arrested at about 10pm on September 8, 2026.

The Corps’ Commander, Dr. Soji Ganzallo confirmed this to newsmen in a statement by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Assistant Commander Adegunwa Adegbuyi, in Abeokuta, the state capital.

Ganzallo said that the suspect was arrested by the operatives of Agbado/Oke-Aro/Ibaragun Area Command led by the Area Commander, ACC Akeem Olaiya, during a joint routine patrol around the Odewale Railway Station and its environs.

“The suspect, was allegedly found in possession of assorted iron fittings suspected to have been removed from the NRC railway fencing. The items were packed in a sack, allegedly for subsequent evacuation and sale.” he said.

The commander said during preliminary investigation, the suspect confessed to have removed the iron components from the railway fencing.

He explained that the suspect began the removal of the iron from 8:pm the previous day to 10pm with the hope of coming back later to evacuate the remaining items before was arrested.

Ganzallo noted that the removal or destruction of railway fittings and protective fencing was a serious security concern because such act could expose railway facilities to further criminal activities and endanger railway operations, passengers and members of the public.

He said that the suspect and the recovered exhibits have since been transferred to the Nigeria Police Force, Odewale Divisional Headquarters, for further investigation and necessary legal action.

The commander, however, reiterated its commitment to protecting critical infrastructure and preventing acts of vandalism, theft, and other criminal activities across Ogun State.

He urged members of the public ar to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities around railway lines and other public infrastructure to the appropriate security agencies.
