Female one-chance robber, others nabbed in Rivers
A female ‘one-chance robber and two male accomplices have been arrested at Rumosi Community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The gang was arrested on Wednesday morning while attempting to escape with a bag of money and snatched from a filling station manager, Mr. Simeon Ibrahim, who was on his way to the bank.
The Guardian gathered that the robbers who operated as commercial taxi operators trailed and carried Ibrahim after he had arranged the money from sales to deposit in a new generation bank along Rumokoro axis of the council.
It was learnt that while on their way, the female robber screamed that her hands were hurt and appealed to him (Ibrahim) to assist her to open the vehicle’s door.
While Ibrahim was trying to open the door, they took the money from him and tried to push him out of the vehicle but the victim dragged the steering wheel and started screaming for help.
Fortunately, a taxi driver blocked the robbers with his car and while they tried to jump out of the vehicle, residents rounded them off and intercepted the robbers.
Meanwhile, the suspects were handed over to the Choba Police Division in the area for further investigation and prosecution.
Speaking with The Guardian, an eyewitness, Mr. Banarbas Tonye, said: “The gang members were arrested after they snatched the bag from the manager and they have been handed over to the police.
“First, the girl denied that she was with the gang, but when I asked the victim if she was among them, he said yes and we asked her to lie down and later we took them to the station.”
Although the spokesman for the state police command failed to respond to calls put through his phone line, the victim, Ibrahim, confirmed the incident.
He said: “I arranged my money and boarded a taxi with three occupants to the bank and while on the way, one of them started shouting, my hand, my hand please open the door.
“While I tried to open the door from inside, she told me to open it from outside, as the confusion ensued, I noticed that my bag was missing and they tried to push me out of the vehicle.
“I held the steering wheel and called for help but nobody responded except a taxi driver who blocked the hoodlums and they were arrested.”
